I decided to start this blog so I can talk to my FANTABULOUS students while I am off on my Historical Adventures (I have several this summer). I hope to share some really cool information with you.
As most of you know, I am preparing to go to Japan with the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund group of 160 US teachers. We are going to look at the schools of Japan, travel to different cities, stay with a host family, go to a Japanese baseball game, see TokyoDisney, and eat and eat and eat. We will meet with some very important people. I have had to choose my wardrobe carefully. We have been asked to dress in professional clothes and ALWAYS wear stockings (so hot) and closed-toed shoes.
I can hardly wait to meet all of these teachers. Many of the teachers have already started talking to each other. I believe there are three of us from Virginia. One is from Richmond and the other is from Charlottesville. Funny thing...I was e-mailing the Charlottesville teacher and she said she went to Kellam High School in Virginia Beach! She said she knew some people in Great Bridge and she named them. I taught the boy...now a soldier in Iraq! Small world, huh? We will be on the same flight to San Francisco.
The really cool thing is that the teachers teach all different kinds of things. There are some elementary, middle and high school teachers. There are music, art, English, geography, math, foreign language and history teachers. One teacher teaches auto mechanics and will focus much of his learning on the automobile factories in Japan. How cool is that?
Did I ever tell you I HATE fish? What am I going to do?
One of the students at our school is Japanese. His mother translated my business cards into Japanese. He said they say Kelley Graves, Hickory Middle School, Virginia, Chesapeake. Let's HOPE SO!! :)
I hope you will follow me on my journey. I don't know how often I will have internet access, but I'll post when I can. I hope to hear from you! Yes, you!
